Ashland University
Ashland University is a private liberal arts university founded in 1878 as Ashland College by The Brethren Church in Ashland, Ohio — a small city midway between Cleveland and Columbus. Gaining university status in the 1990s, it has grown to enroll approximately 6,200 students across four colleges: Arts & Sciences, Business & Economics, Education, and Nursing & Health Sciences. The university is known for its strong sense of community, a 13:1 student-to-faculty ratio, and the fact that 80% of its faculty hold terminal degrees.
Academic life at Ashland University is distinguished by programs such as the Honors Program — offering cross-disciplinary seminars and immersive intellectual community — and the Ashbrook Scholar Program, dedicated to American history, government, and public affairs. The Ashbrook Center was dedicated by President Ronald Reagan in 1983 and remains a nationally recognized hub for civic education.
