Lincoln University
Lincoln University, established in 1878 as the School of Agriculture of Canterbury University College, is the oldest agricultural teaching institution in the Southern Hemisphere. Gaining full autonomy in 1990, it is New Zealand's smallest university by enrolment, with approximately 3,100 equivalent full-time students. The 58-hectare campus is located in Lincoln, Canterbury, 15 kilometres south of Christchurch, and features iconic heritage buildings alongside modern research facilities.
The university is structured around three faculties: the Faculty of Agribusiness and Commerce, the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences, and the Faculty of Environment, Society and Design. This specialised focus makes Lincoln a global leader in land-based education, food systems, environmental management, and agribusiness — offering programmes from diplomas and pathway certificates to doctoral research.
International students make up roughly 50% of the student body, with students from over 75 countries.
