Mater Dei Catholic High School
Mater Dei Catholic High School is a coeducational Catholic institution located in Chula Vista, California, a city in the southern San Diego metropolitan area. Founded in 1960 and originally known as Marian High School, the school is operated by the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Diego and serves approximately 1,040 high school students alongside 450 elementary students across a TK–12 continuum on a single 48-acre campus.
The school's academic program is built on Catholic values and college preparatory rigor. The curriculum spans eight departments — English, Mathematics, Physical Education, Science, Social Sciences, Theology, Visual and Performing Arts, and World Languages — with 12 Honors courses and more than 24 Advanced Placement offerings. Specialized pathways include the Academy of Science (STEAM work-based learning with industry internships) and the Dual Language Academy for English language development.
Mater Dei Catholic is WASC-accredited and maintains a 16:1 student-to-teacher ratio. Athletics are a significant part of school culture: teams compete in the CIF San Diego Section and the South Bay League, with recent championships in girls' basketball (2021, 2025), boys' football (2021, 2022), boys' basketball (2021), and boys' volleyball (2025).
