Pacific International Hotel Management School (PIHMS)
Pacific International Hotel Management School (PIHMS) is New Zealand's leading specialist institution for hotel and hospitality management education, located at a purpose-built working hotel campus in New Plymouth, Taranaki. Founded in 1997, PIHMS is accredited by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) and offers qualifications from Level 5 diploma to Level 9 master's degree — all centred on the unique 'learn in a working hotel' philosophy.
PIHMS offers five principal qualifications: the New Zealand Diploma in Hospitality Management (Level 5, 1 year), the Bachelor of Applied Hotel Management (Level 7, 3 years), the Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Hotel Management (Level 8, 1 year), and the Master of Applied Hotel Management (Level 9, 18 months). English Language Programmes provide a pathway for international students who need to meet English entry requirements. All programmes include guaranteed paid industry placements at partner hotels in New Zealand and internationally.
The New Plymouth campus is a fully operational hotel where students rotate through all departments — front office, food and beverage, housekeeping, events, and management. This immersive approach produces graduates who are work-ready from day one. Accommodation at the campus hotel is compulsory in Years 1–2 of the bachelor programme and the diploma, ensuring full immersion in the hospitality environment.
