State University of New York at Geneseo
State University of New York at Geneseo (SUNY Geneseo) is a public liberal arts college and the designated public honors college of New York State, located in the village of Geneseo on a 220-acre campus in the Genesee River valley, 30 miles south of Rochester. Founded in 1867 as the Wadsworth Normal and Training School and officially opened in 1871, Geneseo has evolved from a teacher-training institution into a selective national liberal arts college.
Academically, SUNY Geneseo is organised into three schools — School of Arts and Sciences, School of Business, and School of Education — with 18 academic departments. The college offers more than 150 programs of study, including 61 undergraduate majors and 5 master's programs, plus 67 interdisciplinary minors. Geneseo hosts a Phi Beta Kappa chapter — the first and only among New York's thirteen state comprehensive colleges.
Geneseo is consistently top-ranked: U.S. News & World Report places it #12 among Regional Universities North and #4 Top Public School in the region; Washington Monthly ranks it #1 among master's universities for contributions to the public good. The faculty-to-student ratio is strong, with median class size of 15 and 90.7% of faculty holding a PhD or terminal degree.
