The University of Tasmania (UTAS) is Australia's fourth oldest university, founded in 1890 in Hobart, the capital of Tasmania. With over 29,000 enrolled students and a budget exceeding AU$770 million, UTAS is a leading research institution known worldwide for its strengths in marine and Antarctic science, environmental studies, and health sciences. The Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS) and the Australian Maritime College position UTAS as a global centre for ocean and maritime research.
UTAS operates across four campuses: the main Sandy Bay campus in Hobart, the Inveresk campus in Launceston hosting the Australian Maritime College, the Cradle Coast campus in Burnie, and a specialist Rozelle campus in Sydney for health programs. The university's five academic colleges — College of Arts, Law and Education; College of Health and Medicine; College of Sciences and Engineering; Tasmanian School of Business and Economics; and University College — offer more than 100 undergraduate and 150 postgraduate coursework programs.
International students are supported through a dedicated pathway program via University College, which offers English Language Programs, a University Foundation Program, and diplomas that articulate directly into UTAS degree programs. Entry requirements vary by program, with most undergraduate courses requiring an IELTS Academic score of 6.5 and postgraduate programs requiring 6.5–7.0. UTAS has strong links with universities across the Utrecht Network and partners with over 19 institutions globally.
